We have begun on our journey…
An uneventful departure for the eight of us,…except our British Air online extra baggage system did not work and we paid extra $$ to bring our extra bags, on my return, we will try to remedy that.
Our extra bags ( 1 or in some cases two each) contained donated medical supplies, gifts for mothers and children at the HC’s, souvenirs for our hosts, donated Notebook PC’s (4 ) and a portable ultrasound devices loaned by Phillips to support our mission and demonstrate the systems at MakCHS and HC’s. We were loaded to the gills… but all for good.
Our team assembled at the Philadelphia airport and departed on time.
With a great flight over the Atlantic, we landed in foggy and wet London Heathrow… had a 4 hour layover, did some duty free shopping and downloaded our emails… busy professionals :-)
We departed for Entebbe on time, taking a bus out to our awaiting Boeing 767 to arrive at 10:45 PM Uganda time… 8 hours ahead of home… in all 24 hours of travel !!
We will take Sunday, Feb 26th to get some long awaited sound sleep, they acclimate ourselves to Kampala and arrange for phone/internet connections… it will be a loooong week if we cannot get connected… technology, we cannot do without it as we are all volunteers supporting the mission to improve Maternal & Child Healthcare education in Uganda while we juggle our professional responsibilities back home… with the 8 hour difference we will all have long days.
On Sunday our hosts at Rotary Club Kampala North and Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS) will host us for a social meet and greet to get to know each other and plan our three weeks of work together to develop a sustainable Maternal & Child Healthcare Education Network. We cannot wait to meet them all and thank them for setting up a great program…
Landing in Entebbe hours… we can’t wait to get started !!
