Arrival of VTT Drexel Wave 2

Dr. Owen Montgomery and Ron Smith (me) depart Philadelphia… -3 F and snow on the ground heading to join our team VTT Drexel already on the ground 12 days on the ground in Kampala Uganda working with the Rotarians of Kampala North Rotary to improve Maternal and Child Healthcare education.

The team we are relieving has already accomplished a lot and trained and observed healthcare workers in the health centers in and around Kampala in Helping Babies Breathe and in Helping Mothers Survive, training trainers who will continue to train others well after our VTT Drexel 2015 members depart… making our VTT contributions sustainable … as a matter of fact, the entire Global Grant is creating a sustainable education distance education network.

We made the obligatory stop at Wagama’a and had a Japanese omelet in London Heathrow… a stop in our 17 hour journey.  We have another 9 hour final leg of the journey before we arrive “home” in Uganda…

On the way to Uganda... our gate then flying over the Alps.

Yes, home, we are so welcomed by the Rotarians in Uganda and by every Ugandan in the hospitals, health centers, and communities we serve in…

We are welcomed in the “wee hours” by enthusiastic Rotarians, carting us off to join the VTT Drexel members at the Grand Global Hotel, our “home” in the Kampala area…we will be off to Makerere University on Friday morning to see the culmination of two years of effort and officially sign a broad cooperation agreement between Drexel and Makerere Universities.
